How many great ideas have you had in your life that were exciting… seemed important to you… that had to be done… that could improve the world….that could improve YOUR world? You thought about it, talked to confidants about it, put it off day after day and then, fssst! Gone! Forgotten, or worse, watched someone else do it and get the credit for it. You’re in good company; we are all procrastinators to some degree. Me, too.

More and more dentists are getting trained and implementing Sleep Apnea screening and treatment into their patient services. Are you going to wait and watch your colleagues become “sleep dentists”? “Action speaks louder than words but not nearly as often.” Mark Twain
“Procrastination is the bad habit of putting off until the day after tomorrow what should have been done the day before yesterday.” Napoleon Hill |
Hey chaz, While I would never question your motivation to inspire the next generation of sleep dentists, I do question the motivation of the cont. ed of the month club/ceu junkie that forever trains and never puts into action. As I develop my new practice vision, I see the docs that want to cherry-pick the cases like the primary snorer or the under 15 AHI pt. Then I get dumped the failed ones, the anatomical challenges, the tmd overlay …you know the drill. It is an all or nothing. Sure you have to start somewhere…but you can’t stop. Perhaps the dabblers will weed themselves out, but we need to somehow vet those that are merely in it for the money then burn out after a few failures, or the magic appliance that was promised as the panacea fails, and they don’t know how to regroup and try something different. I think as a rule dentists are diligent and caring..about things they know best and are comfortable with…strong statement i know. But as a self policing profession, and with no standardization we are going to quickly approach the debacle that was/is TMD tx. So much disagreement that the profession is set back decades while we continue to fight over who has the best splint(insert sleep appliance) and perhaps the medical insurance industry backs out because of the old dental dogma…maybe we learned our lesson??? I hope so. As always if someone is going to learn something then I rather from you than anyone. Keep fighting the fight, b well ™
